About the climber: Shanjeevan Amalanathan

Hailing from Sri Lanka, Shanjeevan is a multifaceted individual who identifies himself as an adventure traveler, social activist, and marine conservationist. With a conscientious commitment to making a positive impact, Shanjeevan has embarked on a series of adventurous endeavors, aligning each one with a social cause.

Since 2019, Shanjeevan has dedicated himself to undertaking one adventure per year, with each expedition aimed at promoting a specific social cause. His remarkable journey started with a cross-country walk across Sri Lanka to advocate for peace in 2019. This was followed by scaling Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, to raise awareness about climate change. Shanjeevan then swam across Kallady Bridge to shine a light on suicide awareness in 2021. He further cycled around Sri Lanka to advocate for marine conservation in 2022. Last year he climbed the top 10 mountains in Sri Lanka to promote gender equality.

Shanjeevan's commitment to social causes is evident through his involvement as a Children Parliamentarian for one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He actively contributes as a Financial Coordinator and member of the UN Sustainable Development Goals Youth Council in Manmunai North. His extensive experience includes working and volunteering with numerous social organizations, INGOs, and NGOs. Some of the notable organizations he has collaborated with include Play for Peace, Scout, The Duke of Edinburgh's Award, DreamSpace Academy, St. John's Ambulance, SUNFO Global Federation, Red Cross, Trash for Trade, Coastal Nomads, Sri Lanka Sub-Aqua Club, Center for Peacebuilding and Reconciliation, BookBridge, Red Cross, and Oceanswell.

With his diverse background and extensive involvement in social initiatives, Shanjeevan brings a wealth of knowledge and a deep-rooted passion for creating positive change. His dedication to advocating for causes related to peace, climate change, suicide awareness, marine conservation, and gender equality perfectly aligns with the mission and goals of the "Summit Sustainability: Scaling Seven Peaks for a Sustainable Future" project. Shanjeevan's experiences, combined with his indomitable spirit and unwavering commitment, make him an invaluable asset to the project.
